Know Your Rights, Play Your Part

Mining, especially of gold, has been practiced in Karamoja for decades. Industrial extraction of limestone started in 2002. Despite this, our studies have shown only 18% of the population have thematic knowledge on basic mining-related laws.
In 2018, we started a campaign to address this information gap aiming to raise these levels of knowledge to at least 50% of the population especially in mining communities. The first campaigns started in Rupa, Katikekile, Tapac sub counties in Moroto. Similar efforts will take place in the rest of the mining districts in 2019. Know your rights, play your part – and ensure your community knows theirs too. Reach out to KDF if you want to be part of this campaign!
